From the outside, the building is an organic and asymmetrical shape that is perceived differently by each visitor, while reflecting the diversity of the collection on the inside. Its heterogeneous collection is housed in a continuous exhibition space spread over six levels, representing approximately 60,000 ft². The building also includes an auditorium for 350 people, library, offices, a restaurant, a gift shop and a multi-purpose gathering lounge.


I really like this design as I think it is modern yet mild and organic. The interior of it has arisen a certain sense of purity and clarity.

Concept

Narrow house in downtown, low cost, live studio, mixed structure


Background, Atmosphere


The location is Abeno-ward Osaka, Japan. Though it is a superb location just 10 minutes from Tennoji Station, it is in the downtown streets filled with traditional emotion, there are traditional tenement houses, old houses and shops, just 1 block from the main street. I planned the house in the narrow vacant land for 56-square-meters in this area. The house is light and open, and the residents can enjoy their hobbies.


My thinking toward this design is that it reflected social phenomenon of reduced space in human living. Under the fast prevalence of technology, our human living form has changed rapidly, so there are many essential elements in our daily lives and needs has to alter with various changes. Our designers are at the front to discover and to explore future possibilities with responsibility to promote better living in any era.

The church is the first complete building in a phased development which also involves demolition of a nineteenth century church on he site that was originally intended to be temporary, plus construction of a bell tower and parish centre.


This design is very rigid and modern, had transit the core concept of religion in a light way.
